Professor Janow teaches at Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs, where her recent course offerings have included United States Foreign Economic Policy. She also teaches at Columbia Law School, including courses in International & Comparative Antitrust Law and International Trade Law/Law of the WTO. She also serves on the faculty of Columbia's Weatherhead East Asian Institute and Columbia Business School's Center on Japanese Economy and Business. Professor Janow also served as the North American Member of the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization, completing her four-year term in December of 2007.

She also currently serves as Chairman of the NASDAQ Stock Market LLC , a member of the Board of Directors of Japan Society, a board member of the fund in the American Funds family and Trimble Navigation, and a member of the International Advisory Board of the China Investment Corporations (China's sovereign wealth fund).

Prior to joining Columbia, Professor Janow served as Deputy Assistant United States Trade Representative for Japan and China at the Office of the United States Trade Representative, Executive Office of the President.
