High Frequency Trading

In connection with the program's below-described November 2012 andApril 2013 Fellow Workshops on high-frequency trading, the program has aggregated recently published materials on high-frequency trading from a wide variety of sources.

High-frequency trading has become an increasingly prominent topic in the past few years--in part due to negative attention resulting from prominent computer-based trading problems in 2010 and 2012--and appears saliently on regulators' radar. Accordingly, the program hosted Fellow Workshops on November 29, 2012 and April 4, 2013 with former and current regulators, legal and financial scholars, legal practitioners, and market participants that focuses on high-frequency trading. Douglas Cifu, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Virtu Financial LLC (a leading electronic trading firm and market maker, actively trading equities, fixed-income securities, currencies, and commodities on trading venues ranging from exchanges to electronic communication networks and other off-exchange trading platforms), presented to the Fellows before an extended question-and-answer and comment period in November 2012. Professor Robert Bartlett and Professor Lawrence Glosten each presented on topics relating to high-frequency trading in April 2013.
